Material flow optimization in manufactoring of corrugated ship's hull manufactoring

2012
Condition of shipbuilding market, after several very successful years, in the second half of 2008. has led to a crisis in the shipping market, which resulted in a drastic reduction in the number of new shipbuilding orders in the market, reducing the cost of ships and even cancellation of already contracts concluded. To Croatian shipbuilding industry to be able to survive on the world ships market during the recession years it must be able to offer the final product by world’s competitive prices, increase competitiveness and productivity with the use of new organizational forms, the application of new technologies with education of human resources. On productivity, planning timelines and costs of ship hull significantly impact have the cost of materials, effectively and economically sustainable transportation, quality of human resources (their specific skills, knowledge and experience), physical and technological resources to produce the final product, and process control with the highest quality standards. The paper presents the flow of materials in making corrugated bulkheads hull starting from the material purchasing to transport, application of shipbuilding standards in production process and final cost process. All will be illustrated for chemical tanker new building of 46 000 DWT capacity in Shipyard BRODOTROGIR.
