Resistance of Clones of Wild Strawberry, Fragaria chiloensis , to Adult Otiorhynchus sulcatus and O. ovatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

1984
Several clones of the wild beach strawberry, Fragaria chiloensis (L.) Duchesne, were compared with clones of commercial strawberries, F. × ananassa Duchesne (both species are octoploid), for resistance to feeding by adult black vine weevil, Otiorhynchus sulcatus (F.), and strawberry root weevil, O. ovatus (L.). Weevils fed less and had lower fecundity on F. chiloensis leaves than on F. × ananassa leaves. The F. chiloensis clones CL-5 and GCL-8 also increased the preoviposition period of newly eclosed adults. Egg production correlated closely with the amount of feeding on a clone.
