Analyses of electromagnetic scattering from a three-dimensional target partially buried in a two-dimensional rough surface

Composite electromagnetic scattering from a three-dimensional (3-D) perfectly electrically conducting (PEC) target partially buried in a two-dimensional (2-D) random rough surface is investigated in this paper. The random rough surface is represented using Gaussian correlation function, and generated by the spectral method. An accurate composite geometry modeling method is used, which is based on the non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS). With this method,a 3-D partially buried target and a 2-D rough surface are combined as a composite whole, which is utilized to assist surface meshing and accurate electromagnetic scattering calculation. The analytic physical optics (PO) and the numerical multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA) are used in the electromagnetic simulation. Then, the results of bistatic radar cross section (RCS) of the combinational model for both polarization modes in different incident directions are also given.
