Prevalencia de crisis convulsivas neonatales en el Instituto Nacional de Perinatología

Introduction: Seizures are the most frecuent sign of neurologic disfunction in the neonatal period and it could be the only feature of neurologic dysfunction, therefore the importance of its recognizition. The objective of the present study was to define the incidence and characteristics of the neonatal seizures in the Instituto Nacional de Perinatologia which is a third level of attention hospital. Material and methods: The present study is retrospective, observational and descriptive. We included all the newborns registered in the labor unit, attended in the intermediate therapy unit . All the patients had fulfilled the inclusion criteria for the present study. Results: The results show a prevalence of 0.89% of seizures; myoclonic typewere the most frequent followed by clonic and tonic seizures. Most patients were treated in monotherapy with Phenobarbital. Discusion: The more prevalent sequels in our patients were epilepsy, neurologic development delay and hypoacusia.
