Heterogeneity of Gut Glucagon-Like Immunoreactivity (GLI)

1977
One component of gut glucagon-like immunoreactivity (GLI-1) has been purified and characterized. It is proposed that gut GLIs of a given species contain the full homologous glucagon sequence and are immunologically related to the glucagon precursors found in pancreatic A cells. The essential difference between the gastrointestinal cells which produce GLIs and the pancreatic A cells is the degree to which these cells shorten a common primary gene product before storage and secretion.
