MINLP Optimized Synchronous Buck Converter Using GaN-Transistors in 48 V / 12 V Power Nets

Future automotive power nets will contain multiple voltage levels to supply the electrical components in the car. DC/DC converters transfer the power between those voltage level. A highly efficient design of the converters is necessary in order to minimize power losses and therefore the CO2 emissions of the vehicle. Traditional design methods rely on the expertise of the designer of such systems. This paper instead proposes a numerical MINLP optimization for the choice of components and operating point to achieve an optimal converter design for an automotive power net.
