Human–animal interactions (HAIs) continue to be an important part of the lives of many people as they age. Numerous studies have provided research data to support its beneficial effects, both physiological and psychological, in the lives of older adults. Retirement residences which facilitate pet ownership and provide programs encouraging human-animal interaction may be valuable for many elderly persons.
