Detection of Cancer Biomarkers using Fluorescence Enhanced by Silicon-Based Photonic Crystals and Bandgap-Matching Laser Scanner

Photonic crystal (PC) surfaces fabricated on silicon substrates provide signal enhancement for surface-bound fluorophores by ~100x using a novel imaging system that illuminates the surface with a laser that matches the conditions for resonant coupling to the PC.
