The Dynamics of User Perception, Decision Making and Route Choice

2015
Travellers’ response to performance changes in the traffic system is a decisive factor in the effectiveness of traffic management measures. This thesis provides an empirical and quantitative assessment of choice behaviour and the effects of perception error on choice outcomes. It considers users’ perception of time in traffic and factors influencing time perception for routes and signalised intersections. A new framework is presented that integrates the implications of thresholds in transport policy and traffic management.
