Electrical Bioimpedance Method to Measure Gastric Motility Function

2008
An electrical bioimpedance method to measure gastric motility function has developed. The method combines impedance gastric motility (IGM) signal with synchronous EGG measurement to extract gastric motility information of both electrical and mechanical activities of stomach and to investigate the complex course of gastric motility, including its rhythm, transmission, gastric emptying and the influences of them. An experiment device of the method has set up and some primary validation experiments of gastric motility measurement, such as compare tests of gastric motility activity for different period of time, some medicine effect test on gastric motility are executed. In the method wavelet transform is adopted to separate the IGM and EGG signals from breath and heart activity signals. By the means of energy and frequency spectrum analysis technique, the signals IGM and EGG can be classified according to the dominant power and dominant frequency. Some indexes such as rhythms of EGG and IGM, signal power spectrum and dynamic spectrum, the rates of rhythm and power for the normal EGG and IGM and so on, can also be calculated. The results of the primary experiments suggest that the method has the good development and application prospect for the measurement and evaluate gastric motility function.
