Comparative Study on the Localization of King Sejong Institute and Confucius Institute from Glocalization Perspectives: Focusing on Research on Local Institutes. This study is designed to compare the localization of King Sejong Institute and Confucius Institute with a theoretical model of glocalization and in doing so propose the right directions and constructive policies for institutes which disseminate languages and cultures. Among local King Sejong Institutes and Confucius Institutes, King Sejong Institute Beijing1 at Beijing Foreign Studies University and Confucius Institute at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies were selected as the research target. Consisting of three parts-people making policy decisions, teachers, and textbooks, the research explores how each institute’s efforts to globalize the language and culture it represents are localized. For research on policy decision makers and teachers, interviews were conducted; for research on textbooks, textbooks used at the local institutes were analyzed. By comparing the localization of the two institutes, this study finds that institutes in charge of spreading languages and cultures tend to seek mutual exchanges and understanding, and realization of cultural diversity and coexistence of different cultures. In addition, this study makes specific policy suggestions regarding the secondment system for the heads of institutes, how to reeducate teaching staff from teachers’ views, and the textbook certification system.
