Vaginal Myomectomy in the Treatment of Postpartum Hemorrhage

ABSTRACT We present two rare cases of postpartum bleeding. The cause of bleeding was the presence of submucous leiomyomas, which were excised vaginally. During the first hours postpartum, bleeding is treated by the administration of medications to produce uterine contraction, especially in cases of uterine inertia. Uterine inertia and retention of placental cotyledons are the usual causes of postpartum bleeding. Bleeding immediately postpartum may be caused by submucous myomas, which must be excised promptly.
