Moment formation, Kondo and RKKY interactions in Al–Pd–Mn quasicrystals

Abstract Studies of Al–Pd–Mn quasicrystals show that moment formation occurs only on a very small fraction of the Mn atoms. A coexistence of Kondo effect and RKKY interactions, which lead to a spin glass state, is observed at low temperature.
