A new method to remove helium impurity from a xenon filled detector with a membrane gas separator

Abstract A new method to remove helium impurity from the X-ray detectors filled with xenon gas is developed. To separate helium gas from xenon their difference in permeability through a membrane is used. In this article, measurements on permeabilities for helium, argon, xenon and methane are presented. An application of this separator to the actual X-ray detectors, which are parts of the VENUS transition radiation detector (TRD), is also discussed.
