Diagnosis of cervix uteri carcinoma in a family planning unit

1969
Over a 21-month period 10000 cervical smears were taken of women who came to the hospital for birth control advise; 6887 results are analyzed. Of that number 1.74% were found to be positive with a cytology of Class 34 and 5. Of those 18 proved to be cancer in situ and 5 invasive. No relationship was found between age or condition of the neck of the uterus and class of cytology indicating the importance of having routine checkups regardless of either variable.
