Provided are a method and device for providing a cell state. The method comprises: access network device detecting that the state of a cell has changed; and the access network device sending cell state information to a user equipment which accesses the cell. The method and device for providing a cell state provided in the embodiments of the present invention enable a user to acquire the cell state in real time by directly providing cell state information for a user equipment via an access network device.
