Optimal bounds for the spectrum of a one-dimensional Schrödinger operator

The lowest point σ o of the spectrum of the eigen-value problem (0.1) is considered for the case of a p-integrable potential q. Optimal upper and lower bounds for σ o in terms of the L P -norm of q are deduced.
