The effect of sternocleidomastoid flap combined with amorphous decellularized dermal matrix on the prevention of Frey syndrome after partial parotidectomy

2015
Objective: To explore the clinical effects of sternocleidomastoid flap combined with amorphous decellularized dermal matrix( ADM) medical organization patch in the prevention of Frey syndrome after partial parotidectomy. Methods: One hundred and three patients with parotid benign tumor were randomly divided into the experiment group A and B( 35 cases each group) and group C( 33 cases). Group A and B were treated with sternocleidomastoid flap and sternocleidomastoid flap combined with ADM,respectively. The wounds in group C were directly closed without any repair. All patients were followed up for 6 to 42 months. The positive cases of iodine-starch test and subjective evaluation in 3 groups were observed in 6 months after operation. Results: The positive rates of iodinestarch test and subjective evaluation in group A and C were higher than those in group B( P 0. 01),the positive rates of iodine-starch test and subjective evaluation in group C were higher than those in group A( P 0. 01). Conclusions: The effect of sternocleidomastoid flap in the prevention of Frey syndrome after parotidectomy is good, but the preventive effect of sternocleidomastoid flap combined with ADM is better.
