Infrared Irradiation Combined with Externally Applied Sihuang Powder on Mechanical Phlebitis Induced by PICC

2014
Objective To observe the effect of infrared irradiation combined with sihuang powder for preventing and treating mechanical phlebitis. Methods 77 patients with PICC were divided into experimental group( 38 cases) and control group( 39 cases) according to priority. The patients in the experiment group were treated with infrared irradiation and externally applied sihuang powder after PICC. The control group was given usual management. If phlebitis occurred, the infrared and Sihuang Powder would be used. The incidence of treating phlebitis was compared between two groups. On treating phlebitis, the effect of using the method of magnesium sulfate compressing was compared with that of using infrared irradiation combined with externally applied sihuang powder. Results The incidence of phlebitis in those two groups was 2. 6% in the experimental group, and 15. 4% in the control group with significant difference( P0. 05). As for those received treatment with infrared irradiation combined with Sihuang Powder,6 patients were healed( 85. 7%),1 patient improved measurably( 14. 3%),the effective rate was 100%. While for those received usual management,8 patients were healed( 53. 3%),4 patient improved measurably( 26. 7%),the effective rate was 80%. Compared with the method of magnesium sulfate compression, the treatment of infrared irradiation combined with sihuang powder compress was shorter( P 0. 05). Conclusion Infrared irradiation combined with externally applied sihuang powder can prevent and treat mechanical phlebitis caused by PICC catheterization.
