Women''s Infertility in Community Based Preconception Care : Prevalence and Associated Factors

Purpose: The birth rate in Korea continue to decline to 0.92 births per woman, with steeper decline tendency in Seoul by 0.78 births. Therefore, the Seoul city is conducting community-based preconception care to promote the positive result of pregnancy, but to screen for infertility diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the risk factors related to the fertility rate of married women. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in community of 12 regional areas of the Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The study population consisted of voluntary participants, between 1st of May 2019 to 30th of November 2019. Data was collected via questionnaire, containing various elements associated with risk factors of pregnancy outcome. Results: Of the 2,274 voluntarily participated married woman in this progect, 443 out of 2,274(19.5%) candidates were identified as infertile. Duration of primary and secondary infertility was 1.7±1.1years and 2.2±1.5years respectively. The mean age of fertile and infertile women were 31.9±3.3years and 33.2±3.8years old respectively, resulted in statistically significant values(p<0.001). The univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were done for identification of the risk factors of the infertility. Conclusion: This study contributed in identifying various significant risk factors affecting female infertility. Multiple policies could be established to prevent infertility and improve the fertility rate based on the result of this study. Further studies are required to identify male risk factors and any other infertility associated clinical risk factors.
