Production and decay of eta and omega mesons in the reaction pi+ d ---> (p)p pi+ pi- pi0 between 1.1 and 2.4 gev/c

1971
The reaction ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}d\ensuremath{\rightarrow}(p)p{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ has been studied in a bubble-chamber experiment with pion beam momentum between 1.1 and 2.4 GeV/c; the exposure size was 14 events/\ensuremath{\mu}b. The most significant features of the final state are production and decay of $\ensuremath{\eta}$ and $\ensuremath{\omega}$ mesons in the reactions ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}n\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\eta}p$ and ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}n\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\omega}p$. The $\ensuremath{\eta}$-production characteristics are well described by a Reggeized ${A}_{2}$-exchange model using Veneziano-type residue functions. The $\ensuremath{\omega}$ production and decay characteristics are presented, and it is found that a $\ensuremath{\rho}$-exchange model with absorptive corrections is inadequate to describe these data.
