A significant number of hospital patients will require intravenous fluid or therapy through a peripheral cannula. Existing literature is replete with explorations of methods in venous access choice and facilitation of peripheral cannulation, yet despite significant advances in the refinement of the cannula there continues to be complexity with the procedure.
