From 2D Web Map to Mobile 3D Mirror World: A Live Virtual Advertising Use Case

We have built a prototype mixed-reality advertising and web publishing service to investigate new forms of advertising and mobile aspects in mirror worlds. The mirror world is the concept of visually mirroring the real world and enabling interaction with the city both remotely and in situ on mobile devices. Our experiment comprises both a Web tool chain for advertisement publishing, and a mobile native client, rather than traditional mobile map applications running in mobile browsers. We present a work in progress report outlining some unique features and user experiences that browser-based mobile applications are still hard to achieve. In the end we also discuss some issues related to the differences between Web and native mobile applications.
