Electrolytic nature of ac/dc conduction in lithium triborate glass

Electrode effects of gold, silver and gold-over-silver on acldc conduction in lithium triborate glass were studied. Observed electrical responses correlated well with the depth profiles of gold, silver, oxygen and boron from the electrode surfaces measured using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). This correlation reasserts the fact that ionic conduction of glass leads to its electrolysis.
