Influence of the latex binder type on alumina tapes lamination process

2012
In this paper, we have studied the influence of the pressure and type of latex binder on the lamination process. All experiments were performed at room temperature (25 °C) using four different lamination pressures (5, 10, 15 and 20 MPa). Two different alumina tapes developed by Swerea IVF were taken into account. The examined tapes contained different latex binder systems (LDM 7651S or Resicel E50). The quality of the laminated structures were analyzed before and after firing using optical microscopy. Moreover, the influence of the lamination pressure on the structures' surface roughness was investigated using profile measurements gauge. The performed experiments have shown which combination of lamination pressure and type of latex binder is the best to obtain defect-free multilayer ceramic structures.
