Bioretention Cell Design and Construction Specifications

2007
Non-point source pollution is a major concern in many watersheds. Nutrients, heavy metals, and organic chemicals contained in NPS pollution negatively impact water quality due to the large volumes and widespread nature of the flow. Bioretention cells offer a means to reduce the velocity of the flow and reduce the pollutant load associated with NPS pollution through physical, chemical, and biological processes. This paper discusses the design process, engineering considerations, and construction details as relates to the contract bidding process. Several cells will be installed in Grove, Oklahoma in summer 2007.
