Application and research progression of perfluorocarbon in transplanted organs preservation

2019
Recently, donor organs from donation after cardiac death and expanded criteria donors have gradually been used in clinical practice with the rapid development of transplantation. In order to improve the quality of organ preservation and organ transplantation outcome, higher request is brought forward for organ preservation methods. Perfluorocarbon (PFC) is a new type of oxygen carrier, which can efficiently transfer oxygen, reduce oxidative stress and ischemia-reperfusion injury, and improve the preservation quality of isolated organs such as the pancreas. The preservation method and protection mechanism of PFC vary from organ to organ. This article reviews the physical and chemical properties, mechanism of action, application and research progress in organ preservation of PFC. Key words: Perfluorocarbon; Organ preservation; Static cold storage; Machine perfusion
