Intradural ventral nerve root enhancement in disease of the conus medullaris

We report ventral nerve root enhancement with Gd-DTPA in patients with non-neoplastic lesions of the conus medullaris. The enhancement probably resulted from a breakdown of the blood-nerve barrier, which might represent a manifestation of Wallerian degeneration.
