A novel approach for Postal address block and Pincode segmentation

This paper proposes two segmentation algorithms.The first algorithm text block extraction (TBE) is used for automatic destination address block (DAB) extraction.The second algorithm touching digit segmentation (TDS) is used to segment the touching digit in extracted Pincode. Test images were collected from the business mail service of Indian Post. 99% accuracy was achieved for DAB extraction and 97% accuracy was achieved for multiple touching digit separation. The proposed methods were simple by having higher accuracy and lesser time complexity at reduced cost.
