COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF GINGIVAL OVERGROWTH EXCIS ION WITH THREE DIFFER ENT S URGICAL MODALITIES - CAS E S ERIES

2012
The three most familiar surgical techniques for approaching the gingival excision are the scalpel technique and the no-scalpel techniques like cautery and laser. Scalpel is regularly emp loyed technique because of its ease of use and precision. Ho wever, scalpels do not provide a superior hemostasis, which is significant on highly perfused tissues such as in the oral cavity. The no-scalpel technique aims to lessen adverse events, especially bleeding, infect ion, pain and to cut down the operating time. Three different types of surgical modalities to access gingival tissues have been tried in this current study and compared/evaluated to make out the effects during and after the surgery. The cautery and laser approach resulted in less bleeding, infection, shorter operation time and pain than the traditional incision technique. Although no difference in effectiveness and aesthetic outcome were found between the three approaches, additional well-conducted randomized trials would facilitate to make the final conclusion.
