Research the Influences of Rime Icing on Surface Field Strength of Stranded Conductor

Rime icing disaster in China was so frequent that it caused the accident of transmission line most, the surface of wire becomes extremely rough due to the growth of ice-tree by rime, and the electric field on the conductor surface will be distorted seriously by rime, moreover, field intensity will be strengthened too. Therefore, in order to explorer surface field distribution on conductor that was icing coated by rime, icing parameter of the Steel Core Aluminum Stranded wire by rime was measured in the Multi-function Artificial Climate Chamber, then electric field distribution model was established according to the shape of ice branch tip, last but not least field strength on the ice-tree tip was calculated by the finite element method. Results show that: ice branch tip can strengthen the conductor field intensity significantly, with the increasing of the thickness of the rime, field strength will decrease gradually with the rate of declining slow down. The conclusion of this paper can provide the selection reference for the overhead transmission line in rime area.
