Comparison of Early Maladaptive Schemas and Symptoms of Premenstrual Syndrome in Single and Married Women of Amol, Iran

The aim of this study was to compare early maladaptive schemas and symptoms of premenstrual syndrome in unmarried and married women between the ages of 20-45 in 2014-2015. The research method was descriptive and causal-comparative. The population included all women and girls with premenstrual syndrome in Amol, Iran in 2014-2015. The sample was 30 women who were selected by convenience sampling method. The means were used in the research had been domains of the early maladaptive schema questionnaire of Young, a 75-item short form of YSQ-SF and premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST) questionnaire that were analyzed using independent t-test. The results showed that changes in mood as well as behavior was more in single women than married women, but no significant difference were observed in changes in mood and behavior between married and unmarried women. Other results showed that there is a difference between single and married women in the schemes of emotional deprivation, abandonment (instability), mistrust/abuse, social isolation, defectiveness/shame, failure, subjugation, self-sacrifice, emotional inhibition, unrelenting standards (perfectionism), entitlement and insufficient selfcontrol/self-discipline. But the difference was only in the entitlement scheme more than married women and emotional deprivation schema of single women was more than married women. As well, insufficient self-control and self-discipline schema for single women was more than married women.
