Tumores malignos da cabeça e pescoço - Experiência institucional com 2 anos de seguimento

2015
Head and Neck Cancer is a prevalent disease in our department and requires a multidisciplinary approach. The aim of this study was to group our statistic data in order to compare our data with national and international references and to detect some aspects of evaluation and surveillance that could be changed or meliorated. We designed a retrospective study on the head and neck cancer patients that started their first oncologic treatment during the years of 2008 and 2009 (total of 111 patients). We evaluated the gender, age, histopathology, anatomic location of the tumor and stage. We also evaluated the therapeutic options, the response to them, the 2 year survival and the disease-free survival. We identified the need to design larger and more homogeneous studies and we meliorated and standardized the quality of the clinical data record. We also realized that there is an urgent need to invest in a primary prevention near the people.
