Attitude Regarding Mental Illness among Primary Caregivers of Mentally Ill People

The present study was undertaken to assess the level of attitude regarding mental illness and find out the association of level of attitude with selected demographic variables among primary care givers of mentally ill people. The hypothesis of the study was that there will be a significant association of level of attitude with the selected demographic variables. Nonexperimental approach, descriptive design was used to conduct the study with 30 samples at the selected treasury hospitals at Madurai, India. Convenient sampling technique was used to select the samples. The data were collected by attitude assessment scale. Only 63.3% of the primary caregivers had negative attitude and 36.6% had positive attitude towards mental illness.
