A Study of Correlation between Type of Promotion of Village Resources and Urban Regeneration Projects

2015
In South Korea, the methods of urban development like redevelopment and reconstruction have been promoted nationwide to improve the urban environment. Recently, in provincial cities or neighboring areas of cities like Seoul, changes take place, rejecting these full-scale development methods, so that the existing village residents live together through partial, physical improvement of the environment, reestablish community relations and maintain the ongoing social, cultural and economic relations. On this background, this study analyzed the data of the inquiries carried out up to date in Urban Planning Academy recently established by supports for urban revitalization projects of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the government-affiliated organization or Busan metropolitan city to analyze the processes and types of projects in which village resources are adopted as urban regeneration projects. For this purpose, first, humanities, social and natural resources of the villages were collected to analyze its potential; second, the village residents’ council activities and human resources were analyzed; third, it attempted to look into the correlation with the types of projects drawn from the city college. The villages, the research subjects are classified into outdated, obsolete residential areas, including refugee village and enforced migrant village. Ultimately, this study attempted to provide basic materials to develop village resources and look for projects that could be differentiated from those of other villages. As a result of the study, recently, types of projects were drawn, which emerge as urban regeneration projects, and common projects and discriminatory projects were analyzed. Regarding the differentiated projects, correlations with humanities, social and natural factors were analyzed. In addition, it was analyzed that the types of regeneration projects have close relationships with resources-residents consultative group activity as well as cultural and natural environment.
