The invention relates to an electronic device with the automatic detection and recovery function and a method. The electronic device with the automatic detection and recovery function comprises a processing unit and a storage unit, wherein the storage unit comprises a plurality of partitions and an image file partition, the image file partition is used for storing image files corresponding to the partitions, and the processing unit comprises a detection module and a recovery module. In the process of starting of the electronic device, the detection module determines whether the partitions are added to a list of partitions to be recovered by checking information of a guiding loading control module, checking whether one of a guiding loading program and a guiding loading program backup is complete or not, and a kernel program is complete or not, and checking whether system files, user data and caching data can be loaded successfully or not. The recovery module is used for determining the partitions to be recovered according to the list of the partitions to be recovered, obtaining the image files corresponding to the partitions to be recovered, and writing the image files in the corresponding partitions to recover the partitions to be recovered. The invention further provides a method for automatic detection and recovery. The electronic device and the method can automatically detect problems and automatically carry out recovery.
