NEW COMPARISON OF MECHANICAL BEHAVIOURS BETWEEN BITUMEN AND BITUMINOUS MIXTURES

1998
As very important geomaterials, bitumen and bituminous mixtures are generally applied in road pavements and some waterproofing applications. Although a lot of study work has been carried out on them, it seems that the relationship between their mechanical behaviours is not yet known. The objective of this paper is to analyze and define some mechanical similarity and difference between bitumen and bituminous mixtures, considering their homogeneity, granularity and viscoelasticity. A rheological model is put forward for the study. It is pointed out that bitumen and bituminous mixtures have the same viscoelastic behaviours, the only difference between them is the structural composition of the materials.
