Infusing Climate and Energy Literacy Throughout the Curriculum

2014
Climate and energy are tightly linked, as society’s energy choices strongly influence climate change. Due to this powerful connection, it is imperative that tomorrow’s decision-makers have the tools to address the challenges and trade-offs of energy choices. Public education often excludes climate and energy literacy out of concern over creating controversy and the perceived complexity of the science involved. New initiatives, such as the Next Generation Science Standards and the Principles of Climate and Energy Literacy, are working to change this dynamic by encouraging teachers to use a common framework to address climate change and energy in their science classrooms in order to help produce a scientifically literate society.
