A Blockchain Based Scheme for Authentic Telephone Identity

2020
Authenticated telephone identity is an essential requirement to prevent spoofing attacks in VoIP systems. The framework STIR/SHAKEN provide a standardized method to ensure the authenticity of the calling number based on PKI. Unfortunately, it is not widely deployed due to its inherent weaknesses, such as the trust issue between multi-CAs. In this paper, we present a novel scheme used for VoIP systems to validate the telephone identity based on blockchain technology. The significant advantage of the proposed scheme is that these weaknesses presented in the framework STIR/SHAKEN are mitigated, as the certificates of all users are recorded on the trusted and unalterable blockchain. Moreover, an end-to-end trust on the calling identity can be achieved.
