Barrier designs with the edge

2006
The ambience of a car park affects the user's opinion of the facility. Operators have invested in making car parks more welcoming and safe. Safety barrier manufacturers have had to produce systems with better aesthetics whilst still meeting increased performance demands. Barriers produced for new car parks and for refurbishment of existing car parks have to comply with BS 6399: Part 1: 1996, BS 6180: 1995 and recommendations published by the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. Berry System's Brisafe perimeter barrier system is described. It is based on wire ropes, has a zero bay-footprint, is aesthetically pleasing and can be colour coordinated. Maintenance costs are low. When refurbishing a car park, it is common for additional barriers to be fitted and some existing ones strengthened. The most common upgrade is the combined barrier and handrail with mesh infill and anti-climb features.
