Planning model for the assessment of air pollution caused by urban traffic

1993
Abstract The following is a support model for urban area planning which allows the evaluation of the impact of measures taken regarding motor vehicle traffic on air quality. The model allows assignment of traffic flows to the road network, calculation of the composite emission factors using the EEC-approved J-CORINAIR method, determination of both the emission and dispersion of the primary pollutants and production of graphical representations of the results. The resuls of its application in Milan to determine the concentrattion of carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen caused by urban motor vehicle traffic, have been listed and will serve as an example of its effectiveness.
