Seismic terminal displacement of UHV post electrical equipment considering flange rotational stiffness

2021
Abstract The displacement at the terminals of ultra-high-voltage (UHV) post electrical equipment is a critical parameter in the seismic design of flexible conductor interconnected systems. Considering the rotational stiffness of the flange, this work proposed a method to estimate the terminal displacement of the UHV post electrical equipment and validated the model with shaking table tests. The first-order frequency coefficient and mode participation coefficient of the equipment were obtained using the model with different parameter values. Then, the fitting curves of the frequency coefficient and mode participation coefficient were determined. Additionally, the method to obtain the maximum seismic terminal displacement of the UHV post electrical equipment was proposed using a spectrum analysis with fitting curves. Numerical examples were performed in this work, and the maximum terminal displacements of the examples were validated by finite element analyses.
