El efecto de la estrategia de la lectura dialógica en el vocabulario de niños de 3 años de edad un estudio de caso

The following study is based on a reading practice called dialogical reading. This is a method that focuses on the learning theory constructionism used to increase expressive vocabulary in children ages 3 and 4 years old. This study was implemented in a preschool section in Quito Ecuador. A control group and a treatment group was selected and the children’s expressive vocabulary was measured before and after the treatment group were read stories using the dialogic reading technique. The Expressive One Word Picture Vocabulary Test was used to measure children´s expressive vocabulary. After the five week intervention was completed, both the treatment and the control group were evaluated again. The results revealed that the children in the treatment group demonstrated a significant increase in their expressive vocabulary compared to the children in the control group. Dialogical reading is a program which helps teachers and caregivers to create an environment where children are engaging verbally with adults when reading, it also has a positive effect on children’s vocabulary by helping them to improve their language skills.
