Design of auto-performance optimization tool for diesel engine

2017
In this paper describe the use of self-tuning control applied to the diesel engine for optimizing its engine performance. More precisely, in this paper it is shown how the concepts of self-tuning can be modified to allow their use in a continuous updating of the engine acceleration map as a function of load and speed. Calibration engineers in most of the automotive companies uses complex and cost-intensive procedure to tune the engine for giving the optimum fuel efficiency. However, this method is very time consuming and it needs a lot of experience to tune the engine to give optimum efficiency. With the tool described in the paper, this time-consuming task can be done easily and with very less human-machine interaction. We have developed this tool using MATLAB R2010a and have followed J1939 SAE standards to establish communication between Cummins ECM and MATLAB.
