High sensitivity on caloric effects induced by stress or magnetic field in a polycrystalline Ni-Mn-In-Co-Cu shape-memory alloy
2019
Abstract In this study, we present magneto- and elastocaloric effects displayed in a Ni-Mn-In-Co-Cu alloy, determined indirectly via a Maxwell relation and by direct measurements of adiabatic temperature change owing to a compressive stress. The proposed alloy has a nominal composition of Ni 44.0 Mn 36.5 In 13.5 Co 3.8 Cu 2.2 and exhibits martensitic transformation near room temperature. The martensitic transition presents a high sensitivity to the application of magnetic field and uniaxial stress producing over 30 K span in the magnetocaloric effect when a 5 T field is applied and a reversible Δ T ad = −5.8 K after releasing 100 MPa in the elastocaloric effect.
