Thickness Evaluation of Ceramic Coatings Formed by Microarc Oxidation

2021
A thickness distribution model of a coating formed under microarc oxidation of aluminum and its alloys is considered for two extreme cases: a point cathode and a cathode parallel to the sample surface. In the case of the point cathode, the change in the thickness of the formed aluminum coatings was determined. It was experimentally established that the best results for the uniform distribution of the coating thickness in the process of microarc oxidation are provided by the condition of plane-parallel installation of electrodes (cathodes) relative to the plane of the oxidized sample. The main technological factors determining the operational properties of coatings formed in this way are considered.
