Cars Spectroscopy for Temperature and Concentration Measurements in a Spark Ignition Engine

1992
Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) has been applied to study the combustion process in a spark ignition (Otto) engine. Local gas thermometry has been combined with analysis of pressure histories and a two-dimensional observation of flame propagation. Engine cycles showing normal and knocking combustion are compared.
