A study on toxic reduction of urban heat Island effect by purifying atmosphere

2019
The objective of this project is to identify the presence of Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in Bangalore city at different locations and to know the factors that are contributing to UHI effect. By measuring the temperatures at different locations like parks, water bodies, broad roads, tall buildings, high traffic areas we can identify which location is having high temperatures and results in UHIs. The project also aims to suggest sustainable methods to reduce Heat Island Effect in buildings and to provide better living conditions to inmates. One building with roof top gardening and vertical gardening and another building with only vertical gardening were selected in the city of Pune for the study of thermal comfort. The measurements on the building with roof top gardening and vertical gardening showed an interior temperature reduction of 4°C and the other building with only vertical gardening showed an interior temperature difference of 2°C when compared to the outside temperature at peak time of the day i.e. 2:00 pm. The cause of this reduction is the process of evapo transpiration from plants which helps to bring down the surrounding temperatures. Plants will purify the air and provide oxygen too making the atmosphere less toxic.
