Prevention Programme of Sexual Abuse in Preschoolers: Screening of Parents' Attitudes, Views, and Beliefs -

1995
The purpose of this study was to measure parents prevention-related behaviors, attitudes and beliefs. Response from 256 parents of preschoolers (aged 3-6) indicated a supportive attitude toward sexual abuse prevention programs, early education and parental involvement in prevention efforts. Approximately one third of the sample reported discussing sexual abuse with their presehoolers and the content of their discussion is described. Comparison were made between parents who had and not discussed sexual abuse with their preschoolers. Reason for not discussing the topic were obtained. Parents beliefs regarding what concepts should be taught with these programs are described. Results of this study gaved us significant cues for a prevention policy. The questionaire and the analysis techniques were matched as much as possible with the study done by Wurtele et al. (1992) from the Universty of Colarado in order to compare and discuss the similarities and differences of two cultures.
