Yb3+-doped scintillation glass used for neutron and neutrino detection

2012
We have done researches on Yb 3+ -doped materials. In this paper, we present a new type of scintillation materials that can observe the neutrons, neutrinos. Through the experiment, we got two flickering glass systems detecting neutron and neutrino. One is doped with Cerium, Lithium, and its highest peak lies in 312 nm. The other system is doped with gadolinium, Yb, and the highest peak is located in 402 nm. They meet the detection of visible, ultraviolet area. This is also due to the charge migration between the excited state of the Yb 3+ and ligand O 2- .
